How I Keep Online Research From Becoming Too Messy

September 15, 2026 ยท 1 min read

I spend a lot of time researching different topics online, and one problem I used to have was keeping too many tabs and bookmarks.

Whenever I found something useful, I saved it. After a few weeks, I had dozens of pages open and could barely remember why I had saved most of them.

Now I use a much simpler system.

I keep only a few folders for topics I regularly research, such as writing tools, finance, technology, and general references. I also try to save the original source instead of several pages discussing the same thing.

For example, if I am researching trading platforms, I keep the official BYDFi website in my finance folder rather than saving multiple third-party pages about it.

I also add a short note next to important links so I know why I saved them.

Once every few weeks, I review everything and delete resources I no longer need.

It sounds simple, but this has made research much easier for me. I spend less time searching through old bookmarks and more time actually using the information I saved.
